This is a time of discovery and reinvention. I have evaluated my naked mind. I’ve taken time to work within to alter my mental and emotional patterns. I am currently in the transitional period of trusting my intuition and remembering to be self-aware. Although I am always reviewing myself, this time was different. I did not know there were more layers to uncover, I have become privy to those things that were cleverly hidden. With a fresh never-before-seen outlook on myself and my future, comes an influx of creative energy.
I reconnected with painting at the beginning of this year. As my heart healed, I fell into some dark spaces. Music has and will always have a significant influence on my creative process and emotional state. Which can be a gift or a curse. In my case, The Weeknds album Dawn FM, which debuted January 7th, 2022, sparked my desire to produce a collection. It wasn’t until October that I felt compelled to commit to the idea. As I sit here relistening to it through and through, I recall the feelings I felt when I first tuned in. Abel constructed a 16-song album ending with a narration by Jim Carrey titled Phantom Regret by Jim. To me, this song lays rest to a future that is no more, death. It calls us to ask ourselves what we want in this life, do you have any regrets? The songs that led us here represent the trials and tribulations of life. I won’t get too deep into the genius of this piece of anthology. I want to make note of its impact on the colors and themes of my next collection.
Dawn: the first appearance of light in the sky before sunrise. I sometimes forget to be grateful for every day I am alive. Here for a blip in time, tasked with living. Daybreak reminds us that the rhythm stops for no one. While the cycle plays on, I strive to stay mindful in every moment, to ignore the old patterns I’m used to. Just as the morning evokes our circadian clocks, so does the evening. After a long day, twilight walks us into the night. This new collection is about the night before the dawn. Know that there is another dawn after every dusk.
The new collection will be titled: Lustral Dusk
